新型コロナウィルス感染対策で自粛が続いています。世間では「おうちで～」と、家の中で楽しめる工夫がされていますがその流れに乗ってみました。「おうちでシリア旅行！」ということで、私がシリアで撮影した写真を厳選して（といっても選ぶほど見るに堪えうる写真はありませんが）お届けし、みなさまをシリア旅行へお連れします。今回はシリア各地にある遺跡をご紹介。

In this issue, we’ll introduce you to ruins in various parts of Syria.

ダマスカス／Damascus
正面に見えるのが旧市街で一番大きな市場、スーク・ハミディーエの入り口。
In the front is the entrance to Souk Hamidiye, the biggest market in the old city.

スークの中は日用品やお土産を売っているお店が沢山。
There are many shops selling daily necessities and souvenirs in the souk.
スークを抜けると正面にはウマイヤド・モスク

中はお祈りしている人、昼寝している人などいて、厳かでありながらまったりしています。
Some people are praying, others are taking a nap, and it’s solemn yet relaxed.
ウマイヤド・モスクの裏の通りにあるシリアで最も古いと言われるカフェ、ノウファラ。コーヒーと水たばこが楽しめます。そして運が良ければ語り部の話を聞くことができます。
Noufalah, the oldest cafe in Syria, is located in the street behind the Umayyad Mosque. You can enjoy coffee and water tobacco. And if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to hear the storyteller.
そしてダマスカス旧市街の魅力は何といっても町中に迷路のように張り巡らされている小路。
The main attraction of Damascus Old Town is the maze of streets that runs through the city.
夜もオレンジのあたたかな街灯に照らされて綺麗です。
It’s beautiful at night too, lit by the warm orange streetlights.
マアルーラ／ Maaloula
ダマスカスから北へ約1時間。山間いにひっそりとたたずむキリスト教徒の村。ここではイエスキリストが話していたとされるアラム語が話されています。
It is about an hour north of Damascus. It is a Christian village tucked away in the mountains. Here the Aramaic language that Jesus Christ is said to have spoken is spoken.
アパメア／Apamea
シリア中部にある遺跡。紀元前300年頃に建されたセレウコス朝の都市だそうです。セレウコス朝シリアって聞いたことありませんか？世界史で習うあのセレウコスです。
The site is located in central Syria. It is said to be a Seleucid city built around 300 B.C. Have you ever heard of Seleucid Syria? It’s that Seleucus you learn about in world history.
アパメアを少し離れると、クッベと呼ばれる家の集落があります。
A short distance away from Apamea, there is a settlement of houses called kubbe.
シュバリエ城／ Crac des Chevaliers
シリア中部、ホムス県にある十字軍のお城。小高い丘にあり、天空の城ラピュタのモデルでは（真偽不明）、と言われるほど美しいお城です。
crusader castle in Homs Province, central Syria. Located on a small hill, the castle is so beautiful that it is said to be the model of the castle in the sky, Laputa (true or false).
サラハディーン城／ Qal’at Salah al-Din
シュバリエ城よりさらに北、ラタキア県の山中にあるお城。こちらも様々な統治を受けたようですが、今のような形にしたのは十字軍、しかしアラブの英雄、サラハディーンにより陥落したことにより今の名がつけられたそうです。
The castle is located in the mountains of Latakia province, further north than Chevalier Castle. It was the Crusaders who made it what it is today, but it was named after the fall of the Arab hero, Salahadeen, who gave it its current name.
アレッポ城／ Citadel of Aleppo
現在残る建物の大部分は1200年頃のものだそうですが、さかのぼると紀元前3000年頃からこの地には何かがあったのとのこと。
Most of the buildings that remain today date back to around 1200, but it is believed that there was something in the area from around 3000 BC.
アレッポ城の目の前にあるスーク。
The souk is in front of Aleppo Castle.
ボスラ／Bosra
有名なのはこの要塞とローマ劇場。ローマ劇場は200年頃、要塞はその後に作られたそうです。
The famous ones are this fortress and the Roman Theatre. The Roman theater was built around 200 years ago and the fortress was built after that.
廃墟となった都市もまだ残っています。
Some abandoned cities still remain.
デュラ・ユーロポス／Dura Europos
アパメア同様、あのセレウコス時代の都市だそうです。周りに何もなく砂漠の真ん中、ユーフラテス川沿いに現れる遺跡は現代にいることを忘れさせてくれます。
Like Apamea, it’s said to be a Seleucid city. The ruins that appear along the Euphrates River, in the middle of the desert with nothing around, will make you forget that you are in the modern age.
いかがでしたでしょうか？シリアはあまり観光地のイメージはないかもしれませんが、シリアには魅力ある場所が沢山あります。歴史なんてわからなくてもそのスケールにはただただ圧倒されるばかりです。
How did you like it? Syria may not have a very touristy image, but there are many places in Syria that have a lot to offer. Even if you don’t know the history, the scale of it is just overwhelming.
